Carry Cohn Jewish Education Fund

This fund was established as a tribute to Carry Cohn whose commitment to Jewish Education and Values has been a driving force and inspiration in the Sacramento community for generations. It is meant to honor Carry in a way that expresses our appreciation and shared commitment to ensuring those values by promoting opportunities in service of those same ideals.

This fund has been designed to encourage and assist young adults in the greater Sacramento region (including the Tahoe/Truckee area, Chico and other regions where JCFW has donors or in which it operates) who are interested in deepening their commitment to a better Jewish future by advancing their Jewish education. Grants from this fund are intended to support young adults demonstrating financial need in pursuing a broad range of such eligible educational programs.

We are so excited to announce our first award was given to Leah Winter of Congregation Beth Shalom to help her with tuition at URJ Heller High School in Israel.

Please consider a donation to help other students like Leah

Blanche and Norman Ginsburg Camp Scholarship Endowment Fund

The Blanche and Norman Ginsburg Camp Scholarship Fund was established by Judy and Dr. Barry Weiner in memory of Judy’s parents, who were avid supporters of Jewish camps, Jewish education, and synagogue and community-wide endeavors. As a child in the 1930s, Blanche attended Camp Chi in Wisconsin, a program of the Chicago Hebrew Institute. Her camp experiences created friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime.    Blanche and Norman met in Chicago and later settled in Los Angeles.  They were married for 64 years and had 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

This fund will provide need-based scholarships to families who would like their children to attend Jewish overnight camps, but who find the cost associated too much to bear.  Helping children to attend overnight camp is an honor to the memory of Blanche and Norman, and an opportunity for the entire community to make an impact in a child's life.

Teen Trips to Israel

One of the most important Jewish experiences a teen can have is to visit Israel with a group of peers. After seeing the impact that such a trip had on their own children, Sharon and Larry Saltzman wanted to make sure that every teen had the chance to go. By working with the Jewish Community Foundation of the West, they established the Teen Trips to Israel Fund. Every year, this fund contributes money to the Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region to distribute as scholarship money for trips to Israel.

This important cause allows teens an opportunity they otherwise might not have had. As the cost of these trips rise and resources have become more scarce, Sharon and Larry feel it is important to grow this fund so future generations can connect with Israel, the Jewish people, and their own sense of Jewish identity.
